When we as Christians interact online, how do we keep from becoming distracted by the mockery, scorn and sin that dominates in much of the blog world? Does it matter if we neglect our families in pursuit of “sound doctrine?” How do we keep our focus on Christ when we face constant attacks from those who are enemies of the cross? Pastor Dustin Segers of Shepherd’s Fellowship in Greensboro, North Carolina minces no words on this podcast today. Christians have to be on guard against those who would draw us into foolish debates and arguments, gossip and time wasting pursuits. Psalm 1 provides the guideline: don’t waste time with the scorners. We are to be like Nehemiah, refusing to leave God’s work for fruitless debate and argument with those who will not acknowledge the truth. In this Slicecast, there is something for everyone who spends time online. We need to examine ourselves regularly to make sure our conduct is Christ-honoring and focused on the tasks God has given us. We’re not wrestling against people. This is a spiritual battle, and that is easy to forget.

In this latest Slicecast, I sat down in the studio with VCY America Radio and TV founder and Executive Director, Vic Eliason, who is also my father. Having celebrated his 50th year in ministry last year, Vic talks about his philosophy of Christian broadcasting, explains why there are no commercials on VCY America, talks about potential threats to religious speech, the birth of Christian talk radio and describes what it is like to flip a switch on a new radio station that replaces secular radio broadcasting with the message of Jesus Christ. Vic is a veteran broadcaster and Christian radio pioneer who began building Christian radio back when FM was in its infancy in our city. They said it couldn’t be done, but the Lord had other plans. Today, the message of the Gospel is broadcast over VCY America’s 20 radio stations and translators, (with Crosstalk airing on 88 radio stations) and two television channels, with four more radio outlets in process. +Soli Deo Gloria+

P.S. Vic returned from out of state yesterday with photographs of a 14-story building which will soon have an antenna on the roof that will broadcast the radio signal to Joplin, Missouri. I’ve always been in awe of my father’s Viking tenacity, but when he told me that he had climbed an outdoor ladder that took him precariously from the 13th floor part of the roof to the 14th floor roof so he could check out antenna space, it truly boggled my mind. All I can do is say, well, that’s Dad.

In this latest Slicecast, the guest is Chris Rosebrough. Chris is the publisher of ExtremeTheology.com and host of the Pirate Christian Radio program, Fighting for the Faith. In this edition of the program, the recent survey taken at Granger Community Church is the topic of discussion. When nearly 60% of Granger’s church attenders reject the authority of the Bible and over half don’t believe Jesus is the only way to salvation, are we even talking about a Christian church any longer? Can Granger’s Pastor, Mark Beeson, turn things around with a Wednesday night Bible study when his pop culture laden, entertaining Sunday morning service will reportedly remain unchanged? These are the topics at issue on this Slicecast.

David talked about his book, University of Destruction, and the importance of Christian students understanding the 3 pillars of destruction they will meet when they leave home. A few weeks ago he played doubles at Wimbledon, and he talked about the spiritual climate in the UK, the Chinese Olympic glorification of man, and his recent visit to the exciting Creation Museum. You can visit David’s website at www.davidwheaton.com and listen to the podcasts of his radio program heard on KKMS in the Twin Cities and 32 other outlets around the country each weekend.

Jewel has studied the New Apostolic Reformation movement for many years. This is the movement that produced Todd Bentley and other earlier “prophets”. In this edition I also talk about the need for Ray Comfort to warn those attending the Word of Faith Conference next week in Tinley Park, Illinois, and I also share a few thoughts about blogging at Slice. (I had inquiries last time regarding the theme music I am using. It is from the CD, Eine Kleine Kaffeemusik, from Mulfinger Music.)
